Tertiary Studies
CPUT – Cape Peninsula University of Technology

- SAQA verification – a SAQA verification certificate is a compulsory requirement for CPUT applications. Processing time takes minimum of 15 working days if all requirements are properly met. Applications to be made on student’s behalf in March of the year prior to applying to tertiary institution in order to meet said institution’s application deadline.
DUT (Durban University of Technology)
- https://www.dut.ac.za/student_portal/student_registration/— Applications are done online by Seatrain on client’s behalf. SAQA verification needs to be done beforehand so must be applied for in February of the year prior to apply to tertiary institution in order to meet said institutions deadline. Please note closing dates as posted online.

Study Permits
- A study permit is required to study at any of the above tertiary institutions.
- Applications for study permit extensions need to be submitted 4 months prior to visa expiry due to duration of application process.
- Seatrain will arrange the letters of invitation (LOI) for you to submit to obtain this permit.
- Requirements for study permit:
- Client to forward copy of student’s passport (with a validity period of 6 months past return date to country of origin after studies).
- Passport copy with minimum 6 months’ validity after return date to country of origin after courses/ studies completed
- Passports must contain at least 1 (one) unused page for entry/departure endorsements (sometimes referred to as visa page).
- Student will need to undergo a visa medical and radiological.
- Student will need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate
- Seatrain will provide the following documents:
- Letter of Financial Responsibility
- Letter of invitation from relevant institution
- Letter of acceptance from relevant study institution
- Letter of confirmation of accommodation booking
- Medical aid membership letter
- Client to forward copy of student’s academic history authenticated by the relevant Consulate / Embassy of their country.
Visa Extensions
The following is required for Visa extensions whilst in South Africa:
- Letter of invitation from relevant institution
- Letter of Financial Responsibility from Seatrain
- Financial Sponsors bank statement (Seatrain)
- Letter of acceptance from relevant study institution indicating duration of course/ study
- Letter of confirmation of accommodation booking
- Medical aid membership letter (study permits only not visitor’s)
- Letter from client confirming salary/ training allowance received by student during the course of his studies
- 3 months’ bank statement from student
- Visa medical and radiological report – this is done in Cape Town
- South African Police Clearance certificate – this is done at the VFS office on day of submission of visa extension application
- Country of origin Police Clearance certificate (if required)
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate
- Valid air ticket with correct return date thereon
Applications for visitor’s visa extensions need to be submitted 60 days prior to visa expiry.
